Plant-Based and Earth-Friendly Pajamas
You may have seen some common features in our eco-friendly pj reviews. Many of the sleepwear items we reviewed are made from plant-based materials like bamboo. Plants are natural and can be returned to natural systems much more easily than synthetic materials.
Cotton, especially organic cotton, is another natural fiber. Cotton comes from a plant will compost in a natural environment. Organic cotton is especially good because it hasn’t been treated with many pesticides considered to be toxic and harmful to the environment.
Synthetic materials are typically derived from petroleum and can be toxic to the local environment when they are disposed of. Plant-based materials are more like the types of things that break down in nature every day. A bamboo shirt composting isn’t much different than a simple piece of bamboo composting. Natural environments evolved to turn these types of material back into food for the ecosystem.
Why Buy Sustainable Pajamas?
With all the different types of PJs out there, why bother with sustainably-produced varieties? There are many reasons. Often, people with skin sensitivities find organic or natural fabrics are less likely to cause a reaction. Organically produced items are not exposed to many of the most toxic synthetic pesticides and herbicides. That is a great reason in itself.
Plant-derived materials are better for the environment to produce and also when they are discarded. Many are completely biodegradable and won’t harm the environment when they naturally break down. If you are concerned about our ecosystems, buy sustainable and eco-friendly items at every opportunity.
